About
Clara at Rue Boyer studios in Paris, France
Clara Baker is a celebrated producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and audio engineer from Portland, OR.
Raised in a musical household, Clara started taking music lessons and writing songs at a young age. She’s recorded her original music solo and with bands and toured all over the US and abroad. Her 2019 release, Things To Burn, was recorded live to tape in a Wisconsin living room with GRAMMY-winning engineer Brian Joseph (Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver) and avant-folk experimentalist Shane Leonard (Anna Tivel, Josh Ritter). Atwood Magazine called it “soul-stirring”, and East Portland Blog called it a “must-hear… one of the best albums of 2019.”
The process of recording Things To Burn inspired Clara to go back to school and become an audio engineer. It was there she learned that less than 5% of producers and engineers are women. Determined to change this, she has been working in studios as a producer, audio engineer, and mixer ever since. Her swift accomplishments in this field earned her an invitation to become a voting member of the Recording Academy. She’s also a proud member of The Alliance for Women Film Composers and Songwriters of North America.
In addition to writing songs and producing, recording and mixing for artists, Clara also composes music for film and TV and has had placements on ABC, Netflix, The CW, Tubi and more. In 2025 she was contracted to create an original sample pack for Splice at the iconic Sound Factory studio in LA. In 2026 she received a scholarship to study with mixing legend Tchad Blake at Mix With The Masters in Paris, France.
While music has lead Clara down many paths (including teaching as Adjunct Faculty of Songwriting at Lewis and Clark College, and touring as a fiddle player with Margo Cilker and others), Clara’s true passion lies in producing/mixing for songwriters. Her two favorite places to be are in the studio and in her garden.
